Carter and I had a relatively quiet day at home yesterday getting ready for a few friends to come by last night. As we played outside while Laney slept (I cleaned, he played), I noticed how different he seemed from just a week or so ago. I watched my son chase Scooter around... run up and down the patio steps... throw a variety of balls around the yard... chase Scooter some more... drink out of the hose even though it wasn't on... pull the petals off my few surviving plants... "help" me sweep... and I noticed something. He sat for a split second (literally long enough for me to take a picture), and I noticed that my sweet little baby was officially turning into a little boy. The picture doesn't really do it justice, but let me describe him: sweat droplets running down the sides of his face, mouth full of strawberry newtons (gross), clothes wet from pouring out the dogs' water, dirty from sweeping off the leaves and them playing in them, gash across his nose from chasing Scooter out from under the bed (are you noticing a pattern here?), something fuzzy stuck to his chin, and of course, eyes wandering around wondering what he can get into next. I snugged him for a bit before he went down for a nap, and he wreaked of recess - but it made me laugh. It also made me realize that he finds a way to make mundane things entertaining. Going to be a much different summer than last, but a fun one no doubt!
